  • Alot has been praised about Park Chan-wook's Revenge Trilogy series starting with the first, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance. In this heavily weaved storyline of a plot, we have a brother, who's deaf and cares for his sister who is terminally ill, getting laid off from work. This sends him onto the black market selling his organs only to get scammed out of a kidney and his money. In an effort to find an alternate way to pay for his sister's medical expenses, he plans with his activist friend, to kidnap the daughter of a wealthy businessman ... his former boss.

Things go incredibly awry and thus, each seeks vengence on the other for the wrong they've done.

Park manages to balance deep emotions with comedic, sometimes irritating and very absurd sequences. What I both loved and hated about his story is that he never let his characters rest for a bit ... something was always happening, someone always wanted revenge.
