Whitten, Dyer and self proclaimed Bigfoot hunter Carmine “Tom” Biscardi held a news conference and gave reporters a few photos that they said evidenced their claims that they had a Bigfoot’s corpse were true. Whitton was a police officer on medical leave; Dyer, a former prison guard, turned car salesman. The pair revealed they started a website in July, BigFootTracker.com, now defunct, where they showed the picture of the Bigfoot’s corpse crammed into a freezer. Biscardi became involved with the duo a month later and organized the media conference. The story was picked up by almost every major English-language news sources and many foreign language ones. Things appeared to be legitimate, but investigations would prove otherwise.

Local Media Proclaims Bigfoot Found!

Whitten and Dyer claimed they were hiking in early June when they discovered the corpse of a seven foot, seven inch tall, five hundred half-ape, half-human creature near a stream in Georgia and saw about three similar living creatures. They showed reporters video stills of what they alleged was one of those creatures dogging them through the woods. Scientists, including the head of North Georgia College and State University's biology department, said it's improbable a tribe of seven foot tall creatures avoided discovery in a well-visited area. The duo’s claim was questioned and some said that the photo of the critter’s body in the freezer was a Bigfoot costume.

Claims that Whitten and Dyer found a Bigfoot corpse had came to the attention of distinguished cryptozoologist Loren Coleman and Bigfoot researcher, Steve Kulls, who told Biscardi about the news. Biscardi contacted the Georgia duo and started organizing a news conference to announce their “find” to the world. During the August 2008 media conference, the duo said the corpse was stored in a freezer and promised to provide DNA evidence that Bigfoot is real.
